Pub Stallhagen is a meeting place, a destination and a cozy restaurant which our guests like to visit time and again. Here we prepare lunches and dinners year-round using the best local natural ingredients. These good meals are best combined with our wide range of craft beer, directly from the brewery.
If you are not from Åland, it may be important for you to remember that AX is the top domain for Åland on the internet. Most of Åland’s websites end in “dot ax” and this has given rise to the term “axgan”.
We at Pub Stallhagen serve what we consider to be sensible food. Our kitchen staff stand behind every natural ingredient and dish which finds its way to your plate and we have prepared them with all our love and skill. We work in accordance with the “axgan” philosophy and primarily use natural ingredients which are produced or processed on Åland. Imported spices and other minor trimmings may be used to enhance the experience.
Do you want to know exactly what we will be serving next month? Unfortunately, we do not have that information. The catch and harvest of the day, the living countryside and our talented and ambitious Ålandic growers and breeders determine what will be on the day’s menu. What we do promise, however, is that we always offer something for meat-eaters, fish-lovers, and vegans. And, of course, that you will go away happy and full!
For groups, having a dynamic menu means that you choose whether you want to eat vegetarian, fish, or meat as a main course. If the group will be eating other meals during their stay on Åland, feel free to let us know what meals have been served at the other places.
At Pub Stallhagen you will always find the beer types that are currently in production in the brewery – our classics, specialty beers, seasonal beers, and exciting new beers from the experimental brewery. You can combine our meals with different beer types and discover surprising new flavour combinations. Our pub staff is deeply knowledgeable and will be happy to help you choose the beer that is right for you. You can also buy different types of beer in mini-tankards and hold your own spontaneous beer-tasting session.
When weather permits, our spacious terrace is a delightful place to eat your lunch or dinner. From the terrace, you have a view out over the lake at Stallhaga and over our own garden, where we have probably picked some of the food on your plate.
Åland was first in Finland to begin to certify restaurants with the Green Key eco-label for sustainability. Pub Stallhagen was among the pioneers, with manager Johanna Dahlgren leading the way. Our chefs collaborate with over 80 local growers and food producers, who deliver directly to us. We economize on energy, compost all food waste and reject any products which do not live up to our environmental philosophy. This includes, for example, carbonated beverages from large companies.
Stallhagen is a microbrewery on Åland, in the middle of the archipelago between Sweden and Finland. As inhabitants of the archipelago, we are used to finding the means to provide for our own needs.
